Alzheimer’s Association Safe Return Program

What is it?

MedicAlert® has teamed up with the Alzheimer’s Association to create a Safe Return program. It is a 24-hour nationwide emergency response service for individuals who suffer from Alzheimer’s or a dementia related disease who wander or have a medical emergency.

How it works

If your loved one ever wanders and becomes lost as a result of their affliction with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, you can call the 24-hour emergency response center (1-800-625-3780) to report the missing individual.

Local Alzheimer Association chapter members and law enforcement will then be notified about the missing individual and will help reunite the lost person with their caregiver. The program provides critical medical information about the person to emergency responders when they need it.

Cost and Registration

MedicAlert and Safe Return provide an ID bracelet or pendant that must be worn by the individual experiencing memory loss. These accessories can range from $35-$55 and require an enrollment package and annual fee. You can register by visiting MedicAlert’s Safe Return program page here.

How TruSense Can Help

The TruSense GPS Smart Pendant can also help greatly when locating loved ones with memory impairments who have wandered off. Alerts can be set to notify you when your loved one has taken the GPS Smart Pendant out of the home, arrived at a frequently visited location, or has traveled outside of a set perimeter. You can then see their most recent location on a virtual map by logging into your TruSense Dashboard, helping your family to reunite as quickly and safely as possible.
